Los acordes sextos tienen un efecto intermedio entre tensión y reposo y se forman al añadir el sexto grado a una triada mayor, denominándose MAYOR SEXTA. También se puede añadir el sexto grado a una triada menor creando un acorde MENOR SEXTA; y añadiendo la misma nota a una triada suspendida se crea un acorde de SEXTA CON CUARTA SUSPENDIDA.
