A call out of the blue is about to ruin Assistant Chief Constable Ned French's career, perhaps even his life, because a case from his past has returned to haunt him. Heather Jonas, forced into a false confession of murder after a harrowing late-night interview session with French, has served 15 years of her 20-year sentence. In all that time she's never appealed.
