明代中晚，是中国白话小说创作的黄金时期，号称明代四大奇书中的《西游记》和《金瓶梅》以及被誉为短篇白话小说之巅的《三言》、《两拍》都成书于这段时间。但由于明清之际的战乱和清代禁书等原因，明末清初创作的一些小说国内已经失传，最典型的如《三言》中的《喻世》、《警世》二言和《两拍》都是本世纪三十年代以后在日本发现并陆续回归本土的，但是谁也没有想到，近年竟在韩国汉城大学奎章阁发现了中国小说史上的又一重要著作——《型世言》。
《型世言》为明末杭州小说家陆人龙所撰拟话本小说集，约刻于崇祯五年。全书四十回，每回演一故事。
