Revising educational frameworks to give equity and ensure accessibility for all students is a difficult task, but Howard addresses educators' and leaders' roles in not only understanding what equity is as a concept, but how to implement it in their daily routines and lessons. He urges educators to turn their "safe spaces" into "brave spaces" and be willing to tackle hard questions and come out the other side with respect and honesty. This text aims to look at education from every angle: district-wide, from the lens of school leaders, within the school itself, and in the classroom. Howard reminds readers that this work is not easy, but it is important for every student. He thinks these goals can be attained by looking at each situation through three theoretical anchors: justice, recognizing and repairing harm, and belonging. Turning equity into a core value of everyday teaching is necessary and benefits all in the classroom. This book is timely and impactful in every way, from analyzing education on different levels and what equity looks like, to discussion questions for educators to ask themselves when preparing lessons, addressing students and parents, and creating charts to help implement the anchors of equity. This easy read provides hands-on practical support and inspiration, and could be used district-wide to heighten educational practices, or used chapter-by-chapter for those wanting to evolve their role. VERDICT Academic and thoughtful, while still accessible, this professional learning text is a must-have for educators and leaders of every stripe.-Rachel Joiner
