Povera gente è il primo romanzo di Fëdor Dostoevskij, pubblicato nel 1846. Narra la storia, raccontata attraverso le lettere, di Varvara Dobroselova e Makar Alekseevič Devushkin, cugini di secondo grado che vivono uno di fronte all'altra sulla stessa strada in due appartamenti fatiscenti. Devushkin vive con diversi altri inquilini, come i Gorshkovs, il cui figlio malato soffre la fame.
