Don Quixote is Cervantes' history of the life and deeds of the Knight of La Mancha, written as a satire of other chivalrous romances. It became much more than its author intended. Don Quixote was ultimately better entertainment that the books it ridiculed. In it, Don Quixote, a common man from La Mancha, has convinced himself that he is a knight. His escapades astride his aging horse Rosinante are anything but uneventful. With his portly peasant squire, Sancho Panza, who recognizes his master's madness but is nonetheless captivated by promises of kingdoms and riches, Don Quixote mistakes windmills for giants and flocks of sheep for armies. They pursue their chivalrous quest until, in a hilarious conclusion, Don Quixote is returned home.
